Lemuria, 2006-2007, Acrylic and ink on board, 30 x 39 in.
domogallery is please to present Lindsay Walt: REPOSE, at domogallery at 447 Springfield Avenue, Summit, NJ. In this body of work, the New York based artist envisions a lyrical space where land and sea merge.
Like a saturated ceramic glaze, the luminous surface of these paintings is painted with a series of color washes applied to wooden panels. As counterpoint, delicate black and white motifs – inspired by Islamic miniatures, Wedgwood pottery, and other symbols of ornament and nature – are layered on the intensely colored ground, creating a buoyant, imaginary world.
Some of these paintings reference mythical civilizations, like the lost continent of Lemuria, while other paintings, like Elysian Fields, allude to an idyllic state, physically and perceptually free from the constraints of gravity.
Lindsay Walt’s work was recently included in Two Friends and So On at Andrew Kreps Gallery in New York, Mischief at Metaphor Contemporary Art, Brooklyn, and at the Bridge Art Fair in Miami. Her work is in a number of collections including the Aldrich Museum of Art, Chase Manhattan Bank, the New York Public Library, Progressive Insurance Company and the Yale Museum of Art.
