domogallery is please to announce the exhibition Robert DiMatteo as the next exhibition at domogallery at 447 Springfield Avenue, Summit, NJ. This will be the artist’s first solo show with domogallery.
Robert DiMatteo’s recent paintings are about the dichotomy between the organic and synthetic world. This work presents relationship through a vocabulary of odd shapes (both organic and geometric) that focus on color, space and surface/tactile qualities that challenge perception in a way in which memory and experience translates to color and form while functioning as mental image and as sign. Materials add to this concern for the organic and synthetic (i.e. coal slag, glass, metallic paints etc.) and are either real surfaces in the paintings or are visually reproduced. In all, these paintings are inclusive and are fully dynamic expressions of the human experience and are a reflection of the ways we straddle these two worlds with an abstract relationship to both.
