Blue Prints
For several years the cosmos has been a recurring theme in my work. I have been particularly interested in showing the inherent cosmic nature of ordinary objects in our everyday world and in exploring the way in which the microcosmic and macrocosmic mirror each other.
At present I am working with the image of the fingerprint, examining the concept of identity and the connection we have as unique, finite beings to the impersonal infinity of the cosmos. My paintings of large-scale fingerprints resemble starry skies, their intricate patterns rendered with tiny white dots floating in a deep indigo ground. The elaborate matrix of lines in my pigment prints also makes reference to a vast universe as well as to the notion of signature. Created from reversals of my ballpoint pen drawings they are meant to resemble blue prints.
